Inaugural NZ Hotel Industry Conference 2007

Clients: New Zealand Hotel Council & Horwath HTL
Stephen Hamilton, director HTL Horwath:
“ McManus Tourism Communications handled the media and PR relationships for the 2007 New Zealand Hotel Industry Conference. Being an inaugural conference, the media awareness of the event was initially not high; however, even though Geraldine was appointed to the role only a few weeks before the conference, both mainstream and specialist tourism media were well informed about the conference, both in advance and after the event. The keynote speakers at the conference attracted good media coverage with a series of press releases prepared, which expanded on the key messages and themes from the conference. Many thanks for your assistance and encouragement with the event!”

The PR and communications needs for the conference were varied including media liaison, press releases and development of post event editorial created from presentations.

McManus Tourism Communications managed the media coverage, ensuring that key media were aligned with angles arising from the conference.

Peppers on the Point - change of brand name

One of the key elements of PR marketing is establishing and building the brand but what happens when that brand name changes? Our communications strategy looked on a client's brand change as an opportunity to drive the business and grow the new brand. When 5 star lodge, On the Point, joined a leading Australian brand, the Peppers Group, we instigated a strategy to maximize the news communicating through all levels of stakeholders and media sectors including industry, trade and consumers.

“ Operating from Australia it was really important that I had great support on the ground in NZ and Geraldine was a fantastic ally with some great contacts. It was a pleasure working with her.”
Nicola de Kleijn, PR Manager

Discovering the magic news

Working with established accommodation The Portage Resort was a pleasure as one of our first clients. We knew that we were up against stiff competition. We were delighted to win their approval and then to delight them with our efforts. We worked closely with the key management team to leverage media liaison and efforts. The strategy on a project basis covers new management appointments, new developments and upgrades such as the opening of the Snapper Café.

“ We have used PR companies since we purchased the resort and Geraldine's work and coverage in the media is far in advance of anything we have had previously. Beyond her strong ability to get results, I most enjoy her constant flow of ideas as to how we can develop opportunities for media awareness. ”
Alison Evans, owner The Portage Resort Hotel

Classic NZ Wine Trail Website communications

Reaching across five Regional Tourism offices the first major upgrade of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail website needed to inspire and provide information. McManus Communications wrote the second website for this prestigious trail, which had previously been just a one-pager. We developed itineraries and day trips along this exciting drive from Hawkes Bay to Marlborough, checking off with RTO’s and balancing itineraries to showcase each region.

“ McManus Tourism Communications provided an excellent contribution towards the core communications and itinerary planning work for the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail. This input was essential as the product developed into a commissionable offering for the wholesale trade.”
Hamish Lowry, director Quest Marketing

Drawing a discerning crowd

Waiheke Island Olive Festival is an annual artisan festival to celebrate the release of the current year's harvest of extra virgin olive oils.  McManus Tourism Communications instigated a change of brand name to align the festival more closely with the island  and the product grown there.

McManus Tourism Communications was responsible for the public relations programme developing media opportunities across national publications, specialist media to local publications and newspapers. Strategy was to attract gourmet enthusiasts to families on a day out. We sent releases and developed story angles in a planned strategy to achieve timely coverage for maximum effect. The result is a growth of festival goers year on year.

A whale of a time

Explore NZ - Auckland Dolphin and Whale Safari

Everyone knows there are whales at Kaikoura but how many know there are whales in the Hauraki Gulf?

Explore NZ, operator of Auckland's Dolphin & Whale Safari,  were seeking to gain publicity for the new schedule of cruises, and also establish recognition of the presence of exciting marine wildlife in the gulf's maritime park. McManus Communications instigated a strategy to cover both consumer industry and trade publications. The cost effective programme using PR as the key tool saw a result in advertising equivalent value exceeding  seven times the value of the investment.
